Profile

I am highly motivated person with more then 8 years in the area of Information Technology and Computer Science. I am organized and capable to work under stress with very tight deadlines. I have build up a broad and valuable range of skills, being able to communicate to people at all levels efficiently and effectively. My main strengths are in algorithms developments, I am able to solve complex problems using nonstandard, but robust and scalable solutions and complex data processing based on higher order statistics.

Education

PhD in Applied Mathematics. Defense College of Management and Technology, Cranfield University, UK — 2004–2010.

Thesis title "Image Processing and Agent-Based framework for the Geolocation of Emitters" PhD thesis was concerned the novel use of the image processing technique (Hough Transform) for the purpose of geolocation non-line-of-site emitters for military and emergency applications and comparison with Particle filter, which lead to a more generalized estimator.  This work resulted in multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences.

MSc (Engineer) in Information Systems and Computer Science, Moscow State Technical University n/a Bauman (MSTU), Russia — 1996–2002.

Master’s thesis: "Semantic Search System for Large Scale Hypertext Libraries on Compact Discs"

Experience

Research Fellow, Wireless Networks and Communication Group,

Defense College of Management and Technology, Cranfield University, UK — 05.2007-Present

Main achievement during 2007-2009 was the development of the new water-filling waveform for mobile communication on physical layer using wavelet packets and implementing it in hardware (Anritsu Vector Generator and Analyzer).  Currently working on a project to develop a novel methods of communications for in-vehicle sensor networks funded by IVHM consortium lead by Rolls Royce and Boeing.

IT/IS Executive,

Microsharp Corporation Limited (previous name: Durand Technology Limited), UK — 02.2003-05.2007

Design, developments and testing of IT and phone infrastructure of the company, created fully automated and redundant IT infrastructure before leaving the company.

Co-founder and Editor-in-chief,

"System Administrator" magazine for system administrators (Russia) — 09.2002-02.2003

Responsible for developing and controlling the publishing process for the magazine. Management and development of the off-line magazine. The position of the editor-in-chief was not editorial, but managerial. Responsibilities included the management of a small team (5-8 employees) and making sure the magazine would be delivered to the printer on time.

Engineer - Developer Ross Business Consulting, Russia — 04.2002-09.2002

Responsible for development of the web portals, including portals for the Russian Ministry of Energy and several oil companies.

Web-developer, Publish house "Pushkin Square" (Russia) — 4.06.2000-19.04.2002

Responsible for developing web applications for fast text processing. The process of the publishing content of two magazines and two newspapers on the web has been fully automated during the period of employment.

Skills

Areas of competence: High performance algorithms based on innovative approaches and high complexity development. Algorithm’s optimization and distributed computing. Development of the indexing and clustering algorithms for various data types. Developing a data mining system based on statistical analysis and fuzzy logic. Novel developments in Wireless Networks.

Scientific interests: Higher Order Statistics, Image Processing, Statistical Analysis, Sensor Fusion, Geolocation, Cognitive Systems, Distributed Computing, Large Scale Text Processing, Evolutionary Computations

Good presentation skills: capable of presenting advanced scientific ideas to the general public making the presentation understandable, without the loss of the credibility.

Technical documentation writing: capable of producing technical documents such as software requirements specification, project reports and scientific articles.

Technical skills

During last years of my carrier, I became an expert in programming with Matlab and Python for numerical calculations and extensively used Perl for text processing before it.  I have a knowledge of programming on C(++), Smalltalk, Ocaml, Ruby, Java (Scala), Prolog, Fortran.  I am also familiar with development of the REST/SOA services for web application and have extensive knowledge of databases such as Couchdb, Mysql, Berkeley DB and Caché(Intersystems) with full understanding of their advantages and disadvantages.
